Intel’s expected move to New Albany in Central Ohio involves sourcing materials and services from local suppliers. According to the Columbus Business First, 140 suppliers have already been selected, with 30 to 40 planning to establish operations nearby.
The first four suppliers announced during Intel’s planning include:
- Air Products and Chemicals Inc. from Allentown PA;
- Applied Materials Inc. from Santa Clara, CA;
- Lam Research Corp. from Fremont, CA; and
- Ultra Clean Holdings Inc. from Hayway, CA

Silfex, a silicon component manufacturer with plants in Springfield and Eaton, is a subsidiary of Lam Research and is expecting to expand operations to meet the new demand. Kit Armstrong, Silfex’s divisional general manager, spoke with Columbus Business First about the economic impact on the area:
“The demand for semiconductor devices is high across all industries, and with the addition of Intel in Central Ohio, our community will be at the forefront of meeting production needs. This initial investment opens the door to numerous opportunities for continued investments in the state. Our proximity will allow us to work together to support the growing industry in the area.”
Intel has estimated an impact on the U.S. economy of $102 billion in 2019. It is expected to create 7,000 construction jobs lasting years, and 3,000 direct jobs in its buildings.
